How we verify our journalism

Our standards

1. Primary sources first. We rely on official documents, court records, government data, company filings and on-the-record interviews. Anonymous sources are used only when necessary and are approved by an editor.
2. Two-person rule. No story is published by the person who wrote it. An editor reviews every fact against the listed sources.
3. Sources are listed on every story. Readers can see what we relied on.
4. Clear labels. News, explainers, analysis and opinion are labelled so you always know what you are reading.
5. Images and video. Every photo and video carries a credit. We do not publish material whose origin we cannot confirm.

Corrections

If you spot an error, write to us. Corrections are added to the story with the date and what changed.
