Privacy policy

We collect as little as we can, and we never sell it.

What we count

To know how many people read us and which stories are useful, the site records each page view: the page, the time, how long the page was open and in use, the website or app that sent you here, your device type, browser and the language you chose. Your browser keeps a random ID so that we can tell new readers from returning ones; it does not identify you.

Your IP address is used once to estimate your country, state and city, and is then discarded — it is not stored. Location data comes from DB-IP (db-ip.com) and is approximate. Raw page views are deleted after 13 months; only daily totals are kept.

What we do not do

• No advertising or tracking cookies from other companies on this site today.
• No accounts for readers, and no sale or sharing of reading data.

If we add advertising in future, this page will say so first, and you will be asked for consent where the law requires it.

Videos and translation

Embedded YouTube videos and the Google translation menu are provided by Google and follow Google's privacy policy when you use them.

Your choices

You can clear this site's data in your browser at any time to reset the random ID. For any question or request about your data, write to us through the contact details on the About page.
