The Department of Financial Services (DFS) has won second place at the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Awards for putting rooftop solar on every feasible building of the organisations it oversees.
Of 4,144 buildings, 2,576 were found viable after checks on roof-access rights, ownership, shadows and load-bearing capacity. Rooftop solar plants have been fully commissioned on all 2,576, with a combined capacity of 61.50 MW.
The award
DFS received the award, in the category "Maximum Buildings Solarized by Central Ministries/Departments", on 5 November 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The Vice-President presented it at the closing session of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, held with the 9th General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen, organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
The ministry says the award reflects the contribution of financial institutions to India's net-zero commitments.
