A case study from the Social Justice Ministry describes how a district de-addiction centre in Uttar Pradesh helped a young man recover from substance dependence and return to work.

The man, identified as Amit (name changed), is 23 and a graduate from Sultanpur district. The release says his dependence harmed his health, routine and relationships, and that stigma and limited support weakened his confidence.

The treatment

On 30 May 2025, he received rehabilitation support at the District De-Addiction Centre, Sultanpur, under the ministry's services. The centre provided medical treatment and medicines, safe accommodation, nutritious food and vocational guidance, along with counselling, motivational activities and yoga, and regular contact with caregivers.

Where he is now

The ministry says he has resumed regular work, supports himself financially and is gradually rebuilding trust with his family and community.

It is one illustrative case; the release gives no figures on how many people the centre treats.
