A 40-year-old man from Pedhapalli district in Telangana has recovered from alcohol addiction with help from a rehabilitation centre funded under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), according to a Social Justice Ministry case study.
The man, identified as "Ramesh Kumar (name changed)", began drinking in early adulthood under peer pressure; the habit hurt his health, family relationships and employment, the ministry says.
What helped
He was treated at the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts run by Prakriti Environment Society in Pedhapalli, receiving medical supervision, individual and family counselling, group therapy, motivational enhancement and relapse-prevention therapy. His family supported him throughout.
The ministry says the case shows the value of timely intervention, professional rehabilitation, family support and follow-up care. This is one case as presented by the ministry; it is not data on the scheme's results.
