Khet Bachaao Abhiyaan Rabi 2026: what the soil-health campaign aims to do

The drive runs from 22 October to 30 November across 34 states and Union Territories and targets around 50 lakh farmers.

Khet Bachaao Abhiyaan (KBA) Rabi 2026, a nationwide soil-health campaign, runs from 22 October to 30 November under the theme "Swasth Dhara, Samriddh Kisan". This PIB backgrounder sets out what it covers.

The scale

The campaign spans 34 states and Union Territories, over 700 districts and 50,000 villages, and aims to reach around 50 lakh farmers. It plans 4,150 teams of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and ATMA staff, backed by over 12,000 scientists and functionaries, to hold 50,000 field demonstrations and 11,750 training sessions. States have been told to prioritise 100 high fertiliser-consuming districts.

What it promotes

  • Balanced fertiliser use: recommendations and the "4R" principle: right source, rate, time and place.
  • Natural farming and integrated nutrient management with organic and biological inputs.
  • Crop residue management, discouraging burning in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Diversification into oilseeds and pulses, including rice-fallow areas.
  • Climate resilience through contingency plans in drought-affected parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.
  • Awareness of farm schemes, pest management and safe pesticide use.

The June round

A month-long first campaign ran from 1 to 30 June 2026 with 1,657 teams. It held over 1.34 lakh awareness events for 92.44 lakh farmers and reached around 1.07 crore farmers and other stakeholders directly, with social media reaching about 4.5 crore people.
