An inter-ministerial panel has recommended asset monetisation proposals involving public-sector assets valued at more than ₹1,100 crore, the Finance Ministry said on 5 November.
The Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) is chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) and co-chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications. The proposals mostly cover surplus land and buildings owned by central public sector enterprises (CPSEs).
What happens next
The recommendations will now go before the Cabinet-delegated Alternative Mechanism for consideration and approval. Only after that will further monetisation activity begin, in line with prescribed procedures, the ministry said.
The role of NLMC
The National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC) is the government's specialised institution for selling or leasing surplus land and other non-core assets. It handles asset assessment, due diligence, valuation, transaction structuring and market-facing monetisation, working with ministries, departments and the entities that own the assets.
NLMC is a wholly owned government company under the DPE, Ministry of Finance, set up following the Union Budget 2021–22 announcement.
The release does not name the specific assets or CPSEs involved, nor give an expected sale value.
