Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30 October shared a Sanskrit subhashitam, a traditional verse of wisdom, on the value of bringing knowledge, wisdom, action and good conduct together in one's life.
The verse he posted on X reads:
शास्त्रं कर्म तथा प्रज्ञा शीलं क्रिययान्वितम्। लक्ष्यलक्षणयुक्तार्थशास्त्रनिष्ठो नरो भवेत्॥
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the subhashitam underlines that knowledge, "when combined with wisdom, discipline and righteous action, provides a strong foundation for an enlightened and purposeful life".
The release names the four qualities the verse brings together: scriptural knowledge, action, wisdom and good conduct. In the Prime Minister's Office's reading, learning on its own is not enough; it has to be joined with discipline and right action to shape a purposeful life.
The Prime Minister's post carried the verse alone, without further comment, and the release does not name its source text.
