Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5 November shared a Sanskrit subhashitam, or verse, on the values that sustain individuals, families and society.
He posted the verse on X: "सत्येन रक्ष्यते धर्मो विद्याभ्यासेन रक्ष्यते। मृजया रक्ष्यते रूपं कुलं वृत्तेन रक्ष्यते॥"
What the verse says
According to the Prime Minister's Office release, the verse emphasises four ideas, each paired with what protects it:
- dharma is upheld by truth;
- knowledge is preserved through regular practice;
- beauty is maintained through cleanliness; and
- family honour is safeguarded through virtuous conduct.
In other words, the verse names one quality for each of four things a person or household values: righteousness, learning, appearance and family standing. It says that truth, practice, cleanliness and conduct are what keep them intact.
The release reproduces the Prime Minister's post and does not add any further comment, announcement or policy context. The verse carries no stated link to any programme or event.
