Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, will visit the Gangtok and Mangan districts of Sikkim on 2 and 3 November 2026 to review fisheries work and launch a new procedure for organic fish farming.

He will launch the Standard Operating Procedure for organic fish farming and inaugurate projects worth ₹375 lakh under PMMSY. He will also hand out Kisan Credit Cards and cheques under the Mukhya Mantri Matsya Uthpadhan Yojana to fish farmers.

Meeting farmers

The minister will meet the Fish Farmers' Cooperative Society at the Live Fish Vending Centre in Mangshila, review PMMSY work at DAC, Mangan, and take feedback from fisheries stakeholders on problems in implementation. Officials from the Sikkim government, the Mangan district administration, ICAR fisheries institutes and farmer organisations will take part.

Why the Northeast

The visit follows a mechanism, set up under the Prime Minister's guidance, for periodic visits of Union Ministers to the Northeast. The ministry said the region can become a hub for certified organic and premium fishery products. It said 34 fisheries clusters have been notified across the country under PMMSY, including organic clusters in Sikkim and Meghalaya.
