Amit Shah presents President’s Colour to Uttarakhand Police, the 16th force to get it

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the President's Colour to the Uttarakhand Police in Dehradun, making it the 16th police force in the country to receive the honour.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other dignitaries attended the ceremony. The President's Colour is the highest honour for a force. Shah said it recognised everyone who has served in the Uttarakhand Police in the 25 years since the state was formed.

Shah's remarks

Shah said 206 Uttarakhand Police personnel had died in the line of duty. He said the force has grown from 13,000 to more than 26,000 personnel and has faced forest fires, landslides and other disasters, including the Silkyara tunnel rescue and calamities at Dharali, Tharali, Syanchatti and Maldevta.

He noted the force secures lakhs of pilgrims at the Kumbh Mela, Char Dham Yatra, Hemkund Sahib and Kainchi Dham, and said he had never heard a complaint against it from pilgrims from his home state.

On migration from mountain and border villages, Shah said the Vibrant Villages Programme, with the central armed police forces and the state police, has seen at least 50 villages where people have begun resettling instead of leaving.
