CBI arrests fugitive after 18 years in Allahabad Bank loan fraud case involving forged documents
Raja Bihari, a proclaimed offender, was traced to Punpun in Bihar; the CBI alleges forged title deeds were used. The chargesheet against 21 accused was filed in 2009.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Raja Bihari, a proclaimed offender who had been absconding in a bank fraud case, from Punpun in Bihar, the agency said in a press release.
The case
The CBI registered a bank fraud case against 21 accused, including Raja Bihari, under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It alleges he obtained a cash credit loan from Allahabad Bank's Patliputra Colony branch in Patna by conspiring with bank officials and middlemen, using forged title deeds, fabricated property documents and fake guarantor credentials.
Years on the run
The CBI filed a chargesheet against all 21 accused on 30 October 2009, and the court took cognisance on 12 November 2009. Raja Bihari did not join the investigation, "has been absconding since beginning" and avoided trial, the release said. The court later declared him a proclaimed offender.
Acting on intelligence inputs and what the CBI called sustained efforts, a CBI team traced and arrested him at Punpun on 5 November 2026.
What is not in the release
The release does not say where he was produced in court, what happened to the trial of the other accused, or how much money the loan involved. The allegations have not been proved in court against him.
How we verified this
VerifiedAll facts are from the CBI press release of 5 November 2026. The charges are allegations; the release does not say whether the accused has been convicted.
