CBI arrests railway senior section engineer at Katni for taking ₹45,000 bribe over 30 labourers
The engineer allegedly demanded ₹1,500 per labourer, for 30 labourers, to keep them from being removed from work; he is in judicial custody till 12 November.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested a Senior Section Engineer at New Katni Junction, West Central Railway, in Katni, Madhya Pradesh, after catching the officer allegedly taking a ₹45,000 bribe, the agency said in a press release.
The allegation
The CBI registered the case on 5 November. It alleges the engineer demanded ₹45,000 from a complainant at the rate of ₹1,500 per labourer for 30 labourers, in return for not removing them from work.
The trap and the arrest
The CBI laid a trap and caught the engineer "red-handed" while demanding and accepting the ₹45,000 at Katni, the release said. It also searched the engineer's home and office to recover documents and other evidence.
The officer was arrested on 6 November and produced before the competent court at Jabalpur, which remanded him to judicial custody till 12 November.
What is not in the release
The release does not name the engineer or the complainant. The investigation is continuing. The allegation has not been tested in court.
How we verified this
VerifiedAll facts are from the CBI press release of 6 November 2026. The release does not name the accused or the complainant. The bribery demand is an allegation; the accused has not been tried. The release calls the complainant “the complainant” and does not say whether he is a contractor; the headline therefore says only that the money was demanded from the complainant for 30 labourers.
