Delhi's National Zoological Park marked its 67th Foundation Day on 1 November with a doodle activity for visitors and its 19th Sunday bird walk, in which participants recorded 46 bird species.
About 1,500 visitors took part in the doodle activity, which the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said gave children and families a creative way to connect with wildlife conservation.
Bird walk
The 'Sunday Bird Walk @ NZP' ran from 7:30 am to 10:30 am under ornithologist Dr Paritosh Ahmed. Eighteen participants, including bird enthusiasts, students and photographers, recorded 46 species and more than 500 individual birds in the designated area. The observations contributed to field-level biodiversity documentation, the release said.
What the director said
Zoo Director Dr Sanjeet Kumar called the anniversary "an occasion to renew our commitment to wildlife conservation, animal welfare, biodiversity protection and public engagement". He said a modern zoo "is not merely a place to see animals; it is a centre for conservation, learning, research and inspiration."
How to join
Each Sunday walk is limited to 20–25 participants. Prior registration is mandatory and places go first-come, first-served. The form is open from Monday to Friday each week, through the zoo's website and the NZP Saathi mobile app.
