A CBI court in Ahmedabad on Wednesday sentenced a former archivist of the National Archives of India to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a ₹20,000 fine in a bribery case that dates back nearly 14 years.
The court convicted Satdhari Lal Sahu, who was the archivist at the National Archives of India's Record Center at Zalana Dungari, Jaipur, Rajasthan, at the time.
The case
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which registered the case on 26 December 2012, Sahu demanded ₹15,000 from a complainant for providing copies of the old CRO record of the Survey of Rajkot and a file of old British land records.
The CBI laid a trap and caught him red-handed while he accepted the ₹15,000, the agency said. He was arrested on 26 December 2012, and searches were conducted at his home and office.
