India and Canada held the first edition of their Defence Dialogue on 3 November, agreeing to keep talking about closer defence cooperation, the Ministry of Defence said.
The meeting was held virtually. It was co-chaired by Amit Telang, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) in India's Defence Ministry, and Scott Millar, Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy) in Canada's Department of National Defence.
What was discussed
The two sides exchanged views on their defence policies and strategic outlooks and looked at ways to deepen cooperation. The ministry named defence industrial cooperation as an important area of engagement. Military-technical cooperation and defence research and development were identified as priority areas.
The dialogue reaffirmed a leadership-level commitment to expand defence and strategic engagement, as set out in the joint statement issued on 2 March 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The two delegations also discussed "specific deliverables" and exchanged views on regional and global issues.
What the release does not say
The ministry did not say what the deliverables are, or when the next round will be held. It said only that the sides agreed to "remain in touch" to take the discussions and proposals forward.
