India is installing about one lakh rooftop solar systems every six days under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Union minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday, calling the scheme "a mass movement".
Joshi, who holds the New and Renewable Energy portfolio, spoke at a fireside chat on the third day of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi. He said rooftop solar is cutting emissions and helping energy security at peak hours, and that millions of households are getting zero electricity bills and earning from selling surplus power to the grid.

Joshi said India's installed solar capacity has grown from 3 GW in 2014 to 172 GW today. The ministry's release adds that module manufacturing capacity has crossed 200 GW and solar cell manufacturing is about 45 GW.

- Green hydrogen: the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen noted the National Green Hydrogen Mission's target of 5 million tonnes of annual capacity by 2030.
- Tool launch: the RTSE Vendor Buddy, built by C-STEP with Bloomberg Philanthropies' support, helps rooftop solar vendors design systems and produce drawings and bills of materials.
