MSME Ministry and TRIFED sign pact to market tribal PM Vishwakarma artisans’ products

The MSME Ministry has signed an agreement with the tribal marketing federation TRIFED to help tribal artisans registered under the PM Vishwakarma scheme sell their products through the Tribes India network.

The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of Dr Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, MSME, and M. Raja Murugan, Managing Director of TRIFED, which works under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

What it covers

The PM Vishwakarma scheme, launched on 17 September 2023, supports traditional artisans whose skills pass down through families. Under the MoU, eligible tribal artisans in product-based trades, such as carpenters, metalsmiths, sculptors, goldsmiths, potters, basket and mat makers, coir weavers and toy makers, can display and sell through TRIFED's Tribes India retail outlets and its online marketplace, tribesindia.com.

Their products will appear in a proposed "Tribes India–PM Vishwakarma Collection", subject to sellers' consent and TRIFED's policies. TRIFED will onboard and train the artisans referred by the ministry, and help with aggregation, quality assurance and packaging.

The release does not give the number of artisans expected to benefit or a launch date for the collection.
