A court in Nagpur on Thursday sentenced three men to three years' imprisonment each, and fined each ₹5,000, for illegally selling leopard skins, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in a press release.
The sentence
The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Nagpur, convicted Gulam Mustafa, Ajay and Gopal, the release said.
The case
The CBI registered the case on the allegation that the three sold leopard skins illegally to unknown persons. After its investigation it filed a chargesheet on 21 December 2001 under Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 49-B and 51 of the Wildlife Act, in the CJM court at Nagpur. The court convicted and sentenced them after trial.
What is not in the release
The release does not say how many skins were involved, when the case was registered, or whether the three can or will appeal.
How we verified this
VerifiedAll facts are from the CBI press release of 5 November 2026. The release does not say whether the convicts will appeal. “25-year-old case” is the gap between the December 2001 chargesheet and the November 2026 sentence; the release does not give the date the case was registered.
