Navy receives anti-submarine craft Amini, built in Kolkata with over 80% Indian content
GRSE delivered the shallow-water craft on 5 November; it carries lightweight torpedoes, rocket launchers and sonars.

The Indian Navy has received Amini, a new anti-submarine warship built in Kolkata, with more than 80% of its content made in India.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) delivered the vessel on 5 November 2026. Amini is one of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) designed and built by GRSE, to the Classification Rules of the Indian Register of Shipping.
What it carries
The Navy describes these ships as among the largest Indian naval warships propelled by waterjets. They are equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers and sonars to detect and engage underwater threats. The ship will add to the Navy's anti-submarine, coastal surveillance and mine-laying capabilities.
A familiar name
Amini takes its name from Amini Island in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. It revives the name of the earlier INS Amini, a Petya III Class anti-submarine corvette that was decommissioned in 2002.
Why it matters
The Navy says the delivery is another milestone in its push for indigenous shipbuilding, in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, and shows the strength of domestic defence manufacturing and reduced dependence on imports.
The release does not say when the ship will be commissioned or how many craft in the class remain to be delivered.
