The government has opened applications for three pillars of its next semiconductor programme and approved 12 more electronics-component projects worth ₹7,503 crore.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the Semicon 2.0 web portal under the Semicon India Programme on 6 November 2026. Applications are now live for Pillar 2 (machines and materials), Pillar 3 (more fabs) and Pillar 4 (strengthening the ATMP/OSAT industry). The Union Cabinet has approved Semicon 2.0 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission.

Where the first phase stands

Under Semicon 1.0, 12 projects were approved across six states with total investment of over ₹1.64 lakh crore. Five had begun commercial production by October 2026. Also, 105 startups have access to design tools, 24 are funded, and 15 have received venture capital. Under the Chips to Startup programme, 332 institutions have design tools and about 70,000 students have been trained.

The 12 new component projects

The approvals under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) have projected investment of ₹7,503 crore, projected production of ₹39,045 crore and 7,127 direct jobs. They cover ten product segments in seven states: Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Copper foil, cathode active material and specialty ceramics get their first ECMS approvals.

Named approvals include multi-layer PCBs for NeST ICELR Private Limited, relays for TDConnex (Chennai) Private Limited, heat sinks for Modern Automotives Limited and specialty ceramics for Voltix Semicon Private Limited. They come on top of 106 applications worth ₹69,548 crore announced earlier.

What the minister said

Vaishnaw said nearly 50% of the units approved under the scheme are MSMEs. For Semicon 2.0 he set a target of attracting at least three major equipment manufacturers and five chemicals and gases companies, and called for rigorous project selection based on quality, technological depth, R&D and global competitiveness.
