Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on 29 October opened a new academic building and main gate at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi, saying it would help the institute expand its national and international programmes.
"Strong infrastructure is essential for carrying out important work effectively," Joshi said, adding that "there is a growing need to accelerate these efforts".
He pointed to NIEPA's role in monitoring how the National Education Policy 2020 is implemented and working with states on problems, and called for a shift from rote learning to understanding concepts.
Joshi said the PM Vidyalaxmi scheme has facilitated ₹60,000 crore in soft loans for higher education, and that the SWAYAM and DIKSHA platforms had widened access to digital learning.
Higher Education Secretary Deepti Gaur Mukherjee and NIEPA's Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor attended.
