A research scholar from Varanasi has completed his PhD and found a job with the help of about ₹20 lakh in fellowship support for Scheduled Caste students, according to a case study from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The ministry has changed his name to Amit Kumar.
Under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC), he received a fellowship, house rent allowance and contingency grants over the course of his research. The ministry says the support let him concentrate on his work rather than on meeting costs.
The NFSC scheme helps eligible Scheduled Caste students pursue research and higher education. The ministry says such support can help build research talent.
The release describes one beneficiary. It does not give the number of fellows supported or the scheme's budget.
