TRAI's September drive test in Mumbai found Reliance Jio with the fastest average download speed, 248.93 Mbps, ahead of Airtel at 133.86 Mbps and Vodafone Idea at 89.04 Mbps.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released the independent drive test results for consumers. Its appointed agency covered a 212.6 km city drive and seven hotspots between 23 and 25 September 2026, under the supervision of TRAI's Bengaluru regional office.

Mumbai results

  • Dropped calls: Airtel 1 of 510; MTNL 2 of 32; Jio 2 of 509; VIL 0 of 509.
  • Poor-signal samples: none for Airtel (0 of 58,003), Jio (0 of 56,138) or VIL (0 of 58,030). The release records an MTNL figure that does not read as a valid ratio (13,057 of 3,687), so it is not interpreted here.
  • Average upload speed: Airtel 32.80 Mbps; Jio 33.87 Mbps; VIL 23.21 Mbps.
  • MTNL data: the release records 0 Mbps download and upload for MTNL (4G), and "Not Available" for call-silence instances.

Where the tests ran

The city drive covered areas from Sion and Chembur to Andheri, Malad, Borivali and Bhayandar. Hotspots included Andheri railway station, Mumbai airport Terminal 2 and several Metro stations.

TRAI says the observations reflect performance on the routes and at the times tested.
