Chandigarh Police received the President's Colour on 1 November, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, chief guest at its Diamond Jubilee Foundation Day, said the award recognises six decades of service.

Shah said the Colour is given to a force for more than 15 years of service, taking into account its discipline and dedication. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria was present, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Shah said 141 new vehicles are being inducted into the fleet, which he said will strengthen rapid response and patrolling. He said the force now ranks second in the country in response time and would rank first with the new vehicles. He put its quick response time at 10 minutes, with police reaching a location on average in 4 minutes.

He said the force of more than 6,000 personnel has an 85% conviction rate and an average case disposal time of 140 days. He said that under the new criminal laws, NDPS convictions stand at 93% of accused persons. Since 4 August 2024, he said, 8,206 FIRs were registered, with online charge sheets filed in 7,590 cases.

The Centre has provided 2,152 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, he said. The force has won 145 medals at the All India Police Duty Meet: 35 gold, 38 silver and 72 bronze. A monthly ₹8,000 is paid to 130 families of widowed police personnel, and scholarships total about ₹2.25 crore.
