The Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) met senior Railway Board officers on 3 November in New Delhi to plan how the four Labour Codes will be implemented across Indian Railways.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Labour Commissioner Sonal Mishra at Shramev Jayate Bhawan in Dwarka, is part of a series of one-to-one meetings with ministries, departments and public-sector undertakings. Vinita Verma, Executive Director (Labour Laws) of the Railway Board, led the railway side; the Centre for Railway Information Systems joined online.
What was discussed
The commissioner's office presented the Labour Codes, 2020, compliance requirements, contract labour, registration and licensing, and the use of digital platforms, including suggestions to upgrade the Shramik Kalyan Portal. Verma described the railways' organisation, workforce, contract labour and existing compliance practices.
A key focus was how Indian Railways' own digital compliance systems could work with the Shram Suvidha and SAMADHAN portals. The two sides also discussed operational challenges in different jurisdictions.
The aim, the release says, is better coordination on the ground and a clearer understanding of railway-specific needs. It does not announce any decisions.
