A research scholar from Tamil Nadu has received about ₹5 lakh under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC), in a case study the Social Justice Ministry published to show how the scheme works.
The scholar, identified only as "Pavithran S (name changed)", is 32 and from Ranipet district. He was the first at his institution to receive the fellowship, and had to sort out initial administrative steps such as creating Maker and Checker IDs at the institute.
What he received
His support began in March 2023 and includes the fellowship, house rent allowance and contingency support, totalling ₹5 lakh. He says it helped his Ph.D. studies and his family's financial stability, and he now works full-time.
This is one person's account as given by the ministry, not a measure of the scheme overall.
