Indian firms sign green hydrogen supply deals of 5.5 lakh tonnes a year, over 70% for export
The 23 contracts since 2023 would need investment of about ₹90,000 crore, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said.

Indian companies have signed green hydrogen supply contracts totalling more than 5.5 lakh tonnes a year, the largest such commitments anywhere, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said, and over 70% of that is meant for export.
The ministry puts the firm and signed offtake commitments at 5,55,610 tonnes per annum (MTPA) as of October 2026. That is about 11% of the target of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Fulfilling them would need investment of more than ₹90,000 crore, about $9.5 billion.
The numbers
- 23 contracts have been signed since the Mission was launched in 2023.
- 18 of them were signed in 2026 alone, covering over 4 lakh MTPA of green hydrogen equivalent.
- Indian suppliers are, the ministry says, offering the world's most competitive prices for green ammonia and green methanol, strengthening their position in European and Japanese markets.
Who has signed
The deals the ministry lists include:
- ACME Group: 4,88,000 MTPA of green ammonia to IHI, Japan, and 1,00,000 MTPA of green methanol to Mitsubishi Gas Chemical.
- L&T and ITOCHU: a joint venture for 3,00,000 tonnes a year of green ammonia, with deliveries expected from December 2029.
- Reliance Industries: a long-term agreement with Samsung C&T of South Korea valued at over $3 billion, with deliveries expected to begin by 2028.
- AM Green: the Asian lot of the H2Global auction for ammonia to Germany, worth at least EUR 585 million over 10 years from 2029, plus a 2,50,000 MTPA deal with Uniper and a 70,000 MTPA agreement with JERA of Japan.
- Jouno Joules: about 2,19,000 MTPA of green ammonia to Select Energy GmbH.
At home, agreements under the SIGHT programme cover 6,70,000 MTPA of green ammonia for 11 fertiliser units and 30,000 MTPA of green hydrogen for refineries of IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and NRL.
The Mission's goal
The National Green Hydrogen Mission was approved with an initial outlay of ₹19,744 crore up to 2029-30. By 2030 it aims to produce at least 5 million tonnes a year of green hydrogen, add 125 GW of renewable capacity, attract over ₹8 lakh crore of investment and create over 6 lakh jobs.
