INS Tarkash joins Aapravasi Diwas events and patrols with Mauritius Coast Guard

The ship ended its Port Louis call on 3 November after cross-training and a joint EEZ surveillance sortie.

Indian Navy ship INS Tarkash ended a port call at Port Louis, Mauritius, on 3 November after joining commemorations of Aapravasi Diwas and carrying out joint patrols with the Mauritius Coast Guard.

The ship's Commanding Officer called on Home Affairs Secretary Kan Oye Fong and Police Commissioner Rampersad Sooroojebally, who also visited the ship to meet the crew.

What the ship did

  • Took part in events marking the 192nd Aapravasi Diwas on 2 November.
  • Hosted a cultural exchange onboard, with Mauritius' Minister of Education and Human Resource Mahend Gungapersad as guest of honour and Indian High Commissioner Anurag Srivastava present.
  • Cross-trained Mauritius Coast Guard personnel and held an outreach activity at Hospice Saint Jean de Dieu.
  • Joined a passage exercise (PASSEX) with the coast guard ship Valiant and carried out joint surveillance of Mauritius' Exclusive Economic Zone, supported by a Dornier aircraft.

INS Tarkash has moved on to the next phase of its operational deployment. The Navy said the visit reaffirmed the long-standing maritime partnership between the two countries.
