A rehabilitation centre in Karimnagar, Telangana, has helped a 30-year-old man recover from alcohol and tobacco dependence, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment says in a case study.
The man, identified as Suresh Kumar (name changed), began drinking in his late teens under peer pressure and stress, and his dependence hurt his health, work and family relationships. On 12 November 2025 he got help at the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts run by Prakriti Environment Society in Karimnagar, under the ministry's National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).
He received individual and group counselling, family counselling, motivational interviewing, relapse-prevention therapy, medical supervision and vocational guidance. The ministry says he has since maintained sobriety. His account is one individual's and is not data on the scheme's results.
The support offered
The ministry stresses that timely intervention, sustained counselling, family participation and structured rehabilitation made the difference. Counselling, group therapy, medical supervision and vocational guidance were all part of the programme at the centre, which is run by Prakriti Environment Society in Karimnagar.
