Ayush Minister of State (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav has urged families to treat health as part of Dhanteras, saying true prosperity lies in good health.
Dhanteras, also known as Dhanvantari Jayanti, marks the emergence of Lord Dhanvantari, associated with Ayurveda. Jadhav noted that the festival is traditionally linked to buying gold, silver and household items, but said wealth means more when accompanied by good health.
He said health discussions often start only after illness, and stressed prevention, citing the Ayurvedic principle "Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam", which stresses preserving the health of the healthy. He pointed to non-communicable diseases, sedentary lifestyles and stress as growing challenges.
His advice: balanced, home-cooked food, less junk food, regular exercise and sleep, stress management, yoga, timely health screenings and proper care for elderly family members.
