PM-KISAN: 9.34 crore farmers to get 24th instalment from Banaskantha today

More than 9.34 crore farmers will receive the 24th instalment of PM-KISAN on 30 October, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi releases it at Banaskantha in Gujarat.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare says the instalment will transfer more than ₹18,690 crore directly to farmers' bank accounts. The Prime Minister's Office, in its note on the same visit, put the amount at ₹19,000 crore.

What else happens on the day

The Prime Minister will also dedicate 521 units built under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, meant for storage, processing and related work, and inaugurate 12 horticulture clusters to promote high-value crops.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will mark the release at a separate event in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh.

The scheme so far

PM-KISAN gives income support to eligible farmer families through Direct Benefit Transfer. Through the first 23 instalments, the ministry says, more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has been paid out.

Under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, investments of about ₹1.75 lakh crore have been made in more than 2.28 lakh projects, such as warehouses, cold storage and primary processing centres. The ministry says these are meant to cut post-harvest losses and help farmers get better prices.

What the release does not say

The release does not give a state-wise break-up of the 9.34 crore beneficiaries, or explain the difference between its figure and the ₹19,000 crore cited by the Prime Minister's Office.
