President hails Haryana’s gains for women and sport as state turns 60

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated the people of Haryana on the 60th year of the state's formation on Sunday, praising progress in women's empowerment and the achievements of its sportspeople.

She was speaking at the 'Hirak Jayanti' celebration at Kurukshetra on 1 November, the day Haryana was formed in 1966.

Women and girls

Murmu said she was happy to note significant progress across dimensions of women's empowerment in Haryana over the last decade. She said the national 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, launched from Panipat in January 2015, has proved a highly significant initiative.

The President noted an increase in the gender ratio at birth in 2025 compared with 2014. She expressed confidence that, through the combined efforts of the Centre and the state, the ratio will reach parity, and that improvements in women's health and girls' education will gain further momentum.

Sport and the state's contribution

Murmu said Haryana's athletes have achieved extraordinary success in prestigious international championships, and she appreciated the state's daughters for making the nation proud.

She described Haryana as the land that spread Bhagwan Krishna's message of selfless action across the world. People of the state, she said, have contributed to the freedom struggle, social change, democracy, literature and science.

She said Haryana is scaling new heights on the path of inclusive development, and wished that Krishna's message would give strength and insight to every person and institution working for it.
