A 27-year-old sewer worker in Rajasthan received protective equipment in 2025 under the NAMASTE scheme, according to a case study released by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The ministry has changed his name to Ramesh Kumar.
He comes from a family that depends on daily wages. His work exposed him to hazards, and he lacked proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Under the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE), he was given a PPE kit and a safety kit. The ministry says this has made his work safer and given him more confidence, and has helped improve his family's living conditions.
NAMASTE aims to protect the health, safety and dignity of sanitation workers through protective gear and safer work practices.
The release is a single case study. It does not say how many sanitation workers have received kits under the scheme.
