Schools across India collected 58.79 lakh e-waste items in Special Campaign 6, with 2.02 crore students and teachers from 2.85 lakh schools taking part, the Education Ministry said.

The Department of School Education and Literacy ran the campaign from 2 to 31 October 2026, with a focus on cleanliness, administrative efficiency and responsible e-waste handling under the Eco Clubs of Mission LiFE. The e-waste figure covers the preparatory and implementation phases, from 16 September to 31 October.

Office clean-up

The Department and its autonomous bodies reviewed 41,181 files and weeded out 31,010. They freed 1,84,828 square feet of office space and earned ₹67.27 lakh from scrap. Over seven lakh cleanliness campaigns were held in schools and offices.

The e-waste drive

On 28 October schools held a mega e-waste management drive. Around 1.89 lakh schools ran an e-waste quiz at morning assembly. A "Waste to Wonder" exhibition in New Delhi showed items made from discarded electronics, and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary visited it.

At the national event, the collected e-waste was handed to a recycler certified by the Central Pollution Control Board. Over 6.29 lakh e-waste awareness workshops were held in schools.

To mark International e-Waste Day on 14 October, the Department installed e-waste bins and a mural made from 60 kg of student-collected e-waste at Kartavya Bhavan 2.
