UPSC publishes merit lists for 2020 select list of the stenographers’ departmental exam

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published the merit lists for the 2020 select list of the Combined Stenographers' (Grade 'B'/Grade 'I') Limited Departmental Competitive Examination, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The recommendations are based on the written part for 2020, held in December 2025, and an evaluation of service records in November 2026.

Posts and vacancies

The commission recommended candidates in these categories, with vacancies reported and candidates recommended:

• Category IV, Private Secretary, Central Secretariat Stenographers' Service: 334 vacancies; 1 recommended.
• Category V, Indian Foreign Service Branch 'B': 43 vacancies; 2 recommended.
• Category VI, Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers' Service: 26 vacancies; 22 recommended.
• Category VII, Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers' Service: 47 vacancies; 5 recommended.
• Category IX: no candidate qualified in the written examination.

Pending cases

Results of 18 candidates, 17 in Category IV and one in Category VI, and of other Category IV candidates who have cases before tribunals, are kept in sealed cover. Final selection will follow Department of Personnel and Training guidelines of 12 April 2022 and depend on the outcome of court cases, including a Supreme Court civil appeal.
