Fifty-one years on
Coal India was established on 1 November 1975. Its annual production was 79 MT in its first year and reached 768 MT in FY 2025–26, which the ministry described as an almost tenfold increase. The target for FY 2026–27 is 815 MT.
The ministry said the October figures reflect the company's focus on raising production, strengthening evacuation and ensuring reliable coal supplies as it enters its 52nd year.
