A multi-modal logistics park at Sindi Railway in Maharashtra's Wardha district will let Vidarbha's cotton, yarn and oranges reach foreign markets directly through Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said at its bhoomipujan on 1 November.

The project is being developed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a special purpose vehicle of the National Highways Authority of India, with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, across 150 acres near Sindi Railway station.

What it will change

Gadkari said the park would boost direct exports and create jobs for local residents. Cotton, cotton lint, textiles and oranges will go through the Sindi dry port to Bangladesh via Haldia in Kolkata, without travelling to Mumbai. The release said this is expected to cut transport costs per container from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹1 lakh, benefiting Vidarbha farmers.

He added that the first rake carrying Maruti cars has already begun operating from the project, and that cargo moving from Vidarbha on the Mumbai–Colombo–Dhaka route would save time.

What will be built

The park, funded by the Centre and the state on the Nagpur–Wardha border, will connect to the dry port. It will have cold storage, warehouses and exporter clusters, consolidating major industries of Nagpur and Wardha. A customs office is to be set up so the facility can handle containers from across the country and abroad.
