DRDO test-fires Pralay quasi-ballistic missile; induction “imminent”

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight-tested the quasi-ballistic missile Pralay, and the Defence Ministry says the missile's induction into service is now "imminent".

The test was conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha at around 11:10 am on 5 November 2026. All test objectives were fully met, the ministry said, as confirmed by data captured by range instruments of the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.

Who built it

Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories, developed the missile indigenously. Bharat Dynamics Limited, one of the development-cum-production partners, produced the system. The flight was held in the presence of senior DRDO officials and representatives of industry and the armed forces, as part of user evaluation trials.

Reaction

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented DRDO, the armed forces and industry partners. He said the missile, "equipped with advanced technologies", will further enhance the military's technological capabilities and operational preparedness against emerging threats. Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh congratulated the teams.

The release gives no figures on range, payload or accuracy, and does not say when induction will take place.
