A Hyderabad start-up that builds robots to clear and service objects in orbit opened its first dedicated facility on Thursday, and Union Minister Jitendra Singh used the occasion to set out a vision of a debris-free space by 2030.
Singh joined virtually from Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi, to inaugurate Cosmoserve Space's Base 1 at VSD Tech Park, Gachibowli. Telangana's IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu attended as guest of honour, along with company founder and CEO Chiranjeevi Phanindra.
What the facility offers
Base 1 covers about 14,800 square feet. Space robots are designed, built, tested under space conditions and operated from a mission control there. It houses orbital rendezvous and capture labs, space robotics innovation labs, microgravity simulation platforms and satellite integration clean rooms.
The company's work
Singh praised Cosmoserve's work on active debris removal and in-orbit servicing. He pointed to Mission EMBRACE, which tested soft robotic petals in space in July 2026, within a year of the company's formation. He noted partnerships with Pixel for satellite systems, Dhruv Aerospace Netherlands for propulsion and Skyroot Aerospace for launch services.
The wider sector
Singh said India's space economy has grown to nearly $9 billion and is projected to reach $40–45 billion over the coming decade. The number of space start-ups, he said, has risen from a handful to nearly 450. He credited space-sector reforms and the creation of NewSpace India Limited and IN-SPACe, and urged domestic and international investors to take part more actively.
