The Ministry of Minority Affairs signed three skilling agreements under the PM VIKAS scheme on 4 November, covering a total of 9,600 trainees, and used the event to press implementing agencies to improve job placements.
The "Samavesh Se VIKAS" review and stakeholder dialogue, held in New Delhi with over 80 participants, marked MoUs with:
- Pithampur Auto Cluster: training for 2,400 candidates in Madhya Pradesh in roles such as electric vehicle service technician and CNC milling programmer.
- Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding: 6,300 candidates across Karnataka, Puducherry, Maharashtra, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha and Gujarat.
- Institute of Entrepreneurship Development: 900 candidates in Uttar Pradesh as solar PV installers (Suryamitra).
A separate MoU, signed on 3 November with the Central University of Kashmir, will train 120 willow-craft artisans in Ganderbal in a 390-hour course.
The push on jobs
Joint Secretary Shyama Prasad Roy said the aim is for every beneficiary to complete skilling "with a certificate in hand, gets a job and moves towards a brighter future". Director Neha Giri told the implementing agencies: "We expect all our PIAs to place a much sharper focus on placement outcomes, employer engagement and timely reporting of verified placement data."
The session reviewed each agency's progress and challenges. The release gives no placement figures.
