A financial assistance scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment helped a 36-year-old man complete a Ph.D. and become a government teacher, the ministry says in a case study.
The man, identified as Ramesh Kumar (name changed), wanted a career in academia but struggled with finances. Between 2017 and 2022 he received about ₹12 lakh under the scheme, which let him complete doctoral studies on top of his M.A. and B.Ed.
He is now a government teacher, and the ministry says his income and professional circumstances have improved. The release does not name the scheme, and it is one individual's account, not data on the scheme's wider results.
What the case study shows
The ministry says the money helped the man overcome the "economic barriers" that had made higher studies difficult. It describes the case as an example of how timely educational support can enable higher studies and open the way to professional growth. The ministry has not published, in this release, how many students received similar assistance.
