The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has recognised 19 institutions as Centres of Excellence-Skills, with recognition valid from 9 October 2026 to 8 October 2029.
Secretary Debashree Mukherjee handed over the certificates at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi. The institutions came through a "Green Channel" route in the empanelment guidelines unveiled on 15 July 2026, open to institutes of national importance, ITIs upgraded under PM-SETU, and centres run or empanelled by Central ministries and states. Their applications go directly to the Executive Committee without the regular evaluation.
What a CoE-Skills does
It is meant to be a permanent, advanced, sector-focused centre for industry-aligned training. Roles include technology-enabled training, assessment, mentorship, training of trainers and assessors, and tracking post-training outcomes. Empanelled centres can be used by MSDE, other ministries, states, industry and CSR projects.
Mukherjee said the aim is "a trusted national network of permanent, advanced and industry-responsive skilling institutions". The release does not list the 19 institutions in the text.
